Tom Bell
UK Director
Thomas Bell is the acting UK director.
Before joining Human Rights Watch’s Asia division in 2020 he was a journalist, including as the Daily Telegraph’s South East Asia correspondent, based in Bangkok, as well as a correspondent for the Economist and others. He lived in Nepal for many years and was a political officer at the United Nations during Nepal’s peace process. He is the author of two books about Nepal; Kathmandu, and Human Nature: a walking history of the Himalayan landscape. He has degrees in history from Oxford University and the Courtauld Institute of Art.
